The Trinity: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit

The Trinity, while not explicitly named in the Bible, is the representation of the relationship within the Godhead: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.  God the Father is the maker of all things (Genesis 1).  He breathed this world into existence and is the Power that holds Heaven and Earth together.  His essence is love (1 John 4:8).  His Son, Jesus Christ, was sent down to Earth by His Father to become the sacrificial lamb for humanity’s sin as a result of the Fall (John 3:16).  He was born humbly to a virgin, lived a sinless life, and died a criminal’s death.  He defeated death and rose again after three days in the tomb.  He ascended into Heaven, where He is now seated at the right hand of the Father (Ephesians 1:20).

The Holy Spirit was given to humanity when Jesus left this earth (John 14:16-17).  The Holy Spirit’s role is to dwell within the believer (1 Corinthians 3:16), and His dwelling serves as a sign of a true believer (Ephesians 1:13).  The Holy Spirit’s job is also to convict (John 16:7-8) and refine (Galatians 5:16-25).  He intercedes between the believer and the Father on the believer’s behalf (Romans 8:26-27).

The Trinity is not to be ranked unequally in power.  All three deserve equal honor because all three are a part of the Godhead.  I reject the known heresies of the Trinity.  I recognize they are alive and well today in the American Church and beyond.

The Bible

The Bible is God’s revelation to humanity.  The thirty-nine Old Testament books and twenty-seven New Testament books make up the Word.  I reject the authority of the Apocrypha.  The Bible is inerrant and has absolute authority.  It is not itself to be worshipped, for that would be idolatry.  It is divinely inspired (2 Timothy 3:16), but I do not subscribe to a certain theory of inspiration.  The Canon is closed, so there is no new revelation today.

Christology

As stated earlier, Christ was the perfect sacrifice for mankind.  In order to be this, though, He had to be fully God and fully man.  I reject the heresies of Christ’s nature: Docetism, Nestorianism, and Arianism.  I also reject the popular heretical view of kenoticism, which is popular in the New Apostolic Reformation movement.

Unbiblical Associations

I fully reject the views of the Word of Faith (WoF) and New Apostolic Reformation (NAR) movements.  This includes the rejection of the prosperity gospel, as well as faith healing and grave soaking.  I cannot condone the seven-mountain mandate of the NAR movement, nor their use of New Age practices disguised as Christian ones such as manifestation/the law of attraction, automatic writing (e.g., Jesus Calling), and angel cards.  The NAR’s views of apostles and prophets still being commissioned today as they were in the time of the Bible is absolutely false.  Additionally, I cannot condone the use of the satanic Enneagram that has snuck its way into the Church (Deuteronomy 18:9-14).

Scripture alone. Christ alone. By faith alone. By grace alone. For the glory of God alone.
